Uncirculated Eagles now available from the US mint.

OK, we all know that usually one can only purhase PROOF versions of gold and silver Eagles from the US Mint. We are forced to pay premiums to dealers for the "bullion" version of these coins.

Apparently in celebration of the 20th anniversary of these coins, however, the mint is offering uncirculated gold and silver eagles to the public. These have "a finish similar to their bullion counterparts", meaning, exactly the same, I'm sure. The only differences: There is a "W" (West Point" mint mark, and the prices are worse than the premiums from dealers.

So, from a numismatic standpoint, these are basically bullion coins with mint marks. They should be more rare than the bullion coins, obviously, especially since they do not ship until the November timeframe. My question is, then, will these be worth more in the future due to the limited availibility and mint mark than typical bullion counterparts? I am not talking about a SHTF scenario, just a "its 2016 and everything is still about the same" situation.

Anyone think there may be a good reason to pick up a few of these essentially bullion coins with mint marks just to have some diversity?

Maybe a small premium due to the lack of time. Then again a month or two is more than enough time for every major supplier in the country to fill their safes. With unlimited order amounts don't expect to make any real money off these. The real money has already been made with the Gold Eagle 20th Anniversary set.

I really don't see any point to these. Two dollar premiums on eagles is enough, why would I want to pay double the price for silver?

I said the same thing about the 2005 Marine Corps 230th Anniversary Silver Dollar. And didnt buy it because I thought it wouldnt go up...

I think this coin will go up in value and plan on buying one or two.

That little "W" mark will be the difference between the 2006s that are and arent worth more money numismatically speaking
